How to Enjoy Your Conservatory in Winter
There’s nothing like relaxing in your conservatory during the summer months, with the sun streaming through the windows and the perfect warm temperature to bask in. If you’re lucky enough to own a conservatory then chances are that it gets a lot of use over the summer, either for entertaining friends and family or as a space to tend to plants or relax and read and book.
Come winter, this space can seem cold and uninviting, but this doesn’t have to be the case. If you’ve invested time and money in a conservatory then you deserve to enjoy it all year round, and there are plenty of ways to do so. As we move into late summer, winter will be upon us before we know it, so read on to find out how you can enjoy your conservatory during the colder months.
Reduce draughts
A draughty room allows heat to escape and lets cold air in, so it’s important to draught-proof your conservatory as much as possible. Add draught excluders to plug gaps under doors, or if you have the budget, go for professional insulation to seal any gaps in between the windows, roof and doors.
Add curtains, blinds and blankets
Curtains or blinds are easy, effective ways to reduce draughts and add some extra insulation to help retain heat. They can easily be drawn in summer to make the most of the sunlight and warmth, but it’s worth installing them to keep you cosy in the winter months. Extra blankets and cushions can also go a long way and ensure that your conservatory is a cosy, comforting place to be.
Insulate the roof
Older conservatories tend to have roofs made from polycarbonate, but unfortunately this material offers little insulation. If your conservatory is on the older side, consider upgrading the roof to one made of insulated glass. This can be relatively expensive, but it’s cheaper than replacing the whole conservatory and it can save you some money on heating bills in the long run.
Add electric heating
Adding central heating to a conservatory can be extremely complicated and time consuming, but a simple electric radiator can do the job just as well. They’re relatively inexpensive and they convert all of the energy they use into heat, so they’re highly efficient too.
