How To Clean Your Windows
Windows get dirty. It’s inevitable! But they’re often forgotten about when working through your list of spring cleaning jobs. The benefit of having clean windows is that it is aesthetically pleasing and it also lets in a lot more light. This is especially helpful in the winter months when there is less sun anyways.
Cleaning windows is a very easy chore to get wrong, not as simple as hoovering or wiping down a surface with windows often left streaky after a clean. So read on for some top tips on how to keep those windows spick and span!
Cleaning From The Inside
An easy mix to clean a window with is one part white vinegar to two parts water. You can also buy ready-made cleaners from shops which each boast different benefits, but the simplest solutions are sometimes the best. It’s normally best to clean your windows on a cool, cloudy day so the temperature does not affect the clean. Here is a guide to an effective way of cleaning the inside of windows:
- Place a towel under the window to catch any potential spills.
- Fill a bucket with clean room temperature water and add some dish soap to it.
- Wet the cloth and work over the window, starting at the top and moving down.
- Then spray the window with your cleaning solution, before wiping it down with a towel.
- If any dirt or streaks remain, repeat the process until completely clean.
Cleaning From The Outside
The outside of the window usually has more dirt or stains, due to outside contaminants potentially coming to rest on them. Here’s how to clean the outside of your windows:
- Use a hose first to rinse the window down, this will remove any large bits of dirt or stains.
- Fill your bucket with cool water and a few drops of dish soap.
- Wet the cloth and go over the surface of the window. Then rinse off with the hose.
- Spray the windows with your cleaning solution. Then use a squeegee to clean the windows from top to bottom. Wipe the squeegee clean at the end of each pass down the window, to ensure you don’t rub any dirt on other parts of the window.
- For tougher stains, leave the solution on for longer before cleaning or use a scrubbing sponge to tackle the stains.
