Cleaning Your Windows This Winter
With winter setting in, it’s time to get some of your cleaning tasks out the way early, so you have a lovely tidy home for the months you’re likely to be inside a whole lot more. While many will hoover, dust and tidy the inside of their home, one thing that often goes neglected is the windows of your home. Many leave them to go dirty and don’t bother to wash them.
Here are some of the benefits and methods of cleaning your windows this winter time.
Why Clean Your Windows
One of the key reasons to clean your windows is because they’re dirty! You wouldn’t leave a countertop covered in crumbs, or a stain on your rug, so why should you leave any marks on your window. They’re just as important as any other surface in your house, so should be treated with the same respect.
Another reason to clean them is that they will let more light into your home once clean. This way you’ll benefit from a bit more heat and light in the winter months where this is rarer to come by. You might even save a bit on energy bills if the heat from the sun can get into your house easier.
Cleaning Your Windows
People usually get cleaning windows wrong, thinking a quick wipe will solve the problem. But this will typically leave streaky marks that don’t look great. Here are some tips for cleaning your windows, both inside and out!
Inside is pretty simple! Just get yourself some window cleaner from the shop, or make your own one with one part white vinegar and two parts water. Place a towel down to catch any spills, then fill a bucket with clean room temperature water with dish soap in. Wet a cloth and work over the window, making sure you start at the top and move down. Next grab that window cleaner and spray the window, then wipe it down with a towel. Your window should now be clean, but any remaining dirt or streaks.
While you may not want to be outside for long, it is also important to clean the outside of your windows, as they are typically dirtier. You should first use a hose to rinse the window which should loosen any large bits of dirt or stains. Then follow the process above, rinsing the window with water that contains dish soap. As you’re outside you might want to use a squeegee to help you clean the windows from top to button.
